goshuin stamp book “nobara”

2018
An original goshuin stamp book using traditional Japanese paper Mino-washi, in support of a product development project by Gifu Prefecture. In order to solve the problem of most goshuin stamp books which are accordion-type and fall apart when dropped, I designed a notch in every corner of washi-dressed acrylic covers so that the attached elastic band will hold the book together when hooked diagonally across the covers. When the band is hooked vertically on one side, the book will open and close like a notebook, and by switching sides, from left to right or vice versa, the other side of folded-paper pages becomes available. Pages are layered with two washi sheets so they can be used as pockets to hold little items such as postcards of places visited. The name was coined from “no” and “bara-bara” meaning scatter in Japanese, but it also signifies delicate white wild roses known in Japan as “nobara”.
